House Pictures

From Aliisa:

I was viewing my friend Miriam's blog this morning to see the pictures of her beautiful new floors and told her I would post some pictures of some of the work we did on our house. So these are pictures of our living room and dining room after floors, paint and appliances.

As you can tell, I love red!!

Oh!! I love your colors and your floor! I am wanting hard wood too. I will have to show DH Miriam's and yours. We have berber carpet and I'm so wanting hardwood or something! We looked at tile for our bathrooms but with the kids I'm afraid they'll fall getting in and out of the tub. So, we'll go with a vinyl probably for that reason.

We've lived here for 8 years and have been adding on and remodeling since we moved in. We also only had one child when we bought this house. Now we have 5! So.....we've been very busy with the kids and the house. I don't think it ever ends! LOL

I'm glad I popped over from Miriam's blog to yours. Have a great day!!

Angie, thank you so much. All our floors are vinyl, even the kitchen. What you see in those pictures is a sticky back vinyl tile that we bought from Lowes. It has a 25 year warranty on it and it was so easy to install. We even bought extra which we ended up needed because we had a mishap on the floor one day. We just used a scraper and pulled up the old tile and layed a new one...it was so easy!! But the best part is that it looks like real tile.

Good luck with all your remodeling!! I can imagine how 5 kids can keep you busy.

thanks again!!

It DOES look nice, Aliisa! Did you do the red "textured" painting yourselves? I've been tempted to try that in the dining room under the chair-rail, but am too afraid to try it for fear I'll mess it up and it won't look nice!

From Aliisa:

Miriam, I did do all the textured painting myself. In the living room, I painted a base red and then used paper towels of all things to put the testure on, which was a darker shade of red. It was really easy and you can hardly mess it up. You just dab whatever you use (sponge, plastic bag...I tried them all and like the look of the paper towel) into a small amount of paint and start pressing it against the wall all over it. As for the dining room wall, I used a split roller..have you seen those? They are so easy to use and come with a split tray. You just pour two colors in and add glaze so it takes longer to dry and roll it on. I used a cinnamon red color that is in my kitchen and then a tan color to lighten it a bit. They make 2 types of rollers, one is lamb's hair and the other is a sponge. With the sponge roller they recommend you use two shades of the same color, the other one says you can use 2 different colors. I used both types, the lamb's hair is what I used in the dining room. I used the sponge in my bedroom and my daughter's bedroom. You can get kits that include how to videos on how to use them and I bought it at Lowes. I recommend you try it...what is the worst that can happen? the answer is...you have to paint it again...not a big deal!!
